Terri's Early Life
Terri Clark was born on August 5, 1968 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. But, was raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Her birth name was Terri Lynn Sauson. Her mother is Linda and she has a stepfather, Peter Clark. Her biological father is Lester Sauson. "My mother played the guitar to me every night," she says. Her family has a background of music and that is what really got her into her music career. Her mom would play guitar to her and sing songs such as "Daddy Frank," "The long Black Veil" and "Brand New Key." Back then, her mother also sang folk songs at coffee houses. Then, when she turned nine years old she started playing guitar and never stopped.
Her grandparents, Ray and Betty Gauthier performed on the Canadian country music circuit. She says that, "they opened shows for Johnny Cash, George Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens and many others. They had stopped performing before Terri Clark was born, but she would often watch them sing and play guitar with their friends. Terri Clark grew up around music and people who had a passion for and loved music themselves and because of that, Terri took such and interest to music to make it her career.

After Terri's High school Graduation
After Terri's graduation in 1987 at Crescent Heights High school in Medicine Hat, Alberta , she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A. She wandered around and then went into Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. She asked if she could sing. The management of Tootsie's Orchid Lounge was impressed and she got a job as the club's singer. Even though she got a job very quickly, it took her a long time to get into her music career. The next seven years she was trying to get a record contract while working multiple jobs over the years. She worked as a dishwasher at a Chinese restaurant, waitress, secretary at a carpet-cleaning company and a boot seller, all while waiting to complete her true dream which was to get into the music industry.
During this time period, she married Ted Stevenson who was a fiddler she met. They got married in 1991 and their marriage lasted until 1996. In 1994, she got an audition for Mercury Records. After Terri's live performance, her talent impressed the judge and the label's president signed her as a singer. That was the start of her music career, after working a hard seven years to get her record contract. Her album was out in the summer of 1995. She was a hit as soon as the album released. "Better things to do," "When boy meets girl" and 'If I were you" were the top hits in the album.
On September 17, 2005, Terri married Greg Kaczor who was her tour manager and that marriage lasted until February 16, 2007 when she filed for divorce.
